I took up a temporary (2-year) position in December, based in the Faculty of Engineering rather than the School of Computing - although my physical location remains in the corner of the Long Room :) The new job leaves me with much less time for teaching (for the next 18 months or so, at least). I'll be in charge of first-year programming next session, but nothing much beyond that. I’m not actually going anywhere!

The trend that has my students transfixed is writing English verses for traditional regional poetry: it started with one mixed-language performance and has taken off in a big way. Until our internet speeds improve, it will be poetry before Rick Astley videos. One reason to stick with the luddites on occasion :) Well, rickrolled I haven’t been, but it still is good to have a loast wrap-up session with students at the end of semester- the more fun, the better.
